Monica Nolasco and Philips Journey

The Cay
By Monica Nolasco
In the cay our hero Philip, leaves home with his mother because of World War II. He is then separated from his mother when the SS auto is sunk. He is brought aboard a raft by Timothy. During the next few months many things happen which transforms Philip into a better person. He created a better world for himself because he matured.
Philip and his mother left the island and left his father because of the war. Philip also was separated from his mother because SS auto got torpedoed. Philip was pushed to leave the island because of the war. Philip’s parents argued whether they should leave the island, but they left anyways. Philip and his mother were planning on going to their home town in SS auto. Philip landed on the Cay with Timothy. Philip and Timothy landed on a deserted island on the Caribbean Sea. Timothy was the only mentor that Philip had. Timothy taught Philip lots of things while he was blind. Philip learned how to fish and how to climb a Palm tree. Timothy slapped Philip because Philip was disrespecting. After that slapped Philip realized that Timothy was trying to help him. Philip helped Timothy recover from the Malaria. After the storm Philip gets to work, along the way Philip learns to make black smoke. For a few days alone Philip heard airplanes go by. When he heard them he would start the fire. At first he thought the smoke was black or white and then found out how to make black smoke. Philip is then saved; he goes to the hospital about three times and gets surgery. Then he gets his eyesight back and then overcomes he prejudice and hears. All the things that have happened to Philip have made him mature. He has also become independent, and lastly he overcomes his prejudice towards people who are different from him.
Philip’s story demonstrated a true hero’s journey. During his journey he overcomes his fears with help from Timothy. Philip proves to a true hero.
