In The Cay our hero, Phillip leaves home with his mother because of W.W.II. He is then separated from her when the SS Hato was torpedoed. He is brought aboard a rat by Timothy. During the next few months many things happen which transformed Phillip. He creates better world for himself because he matured.
Phillips Mother was afraid of the war. Phillip’s parents argue whether they should leave. So Phillip and his mother decide to get on the SS Hato. The SS Hato was torpedoed and Phillip became blind. Phillip and Timothy were on a raft heading for a deserted island in the Caribbean Sea. Timothy has been a lot in his life since he lost his mother. The transformation in this book was that Phillip help Timothy recover from malaria. Phillip has made a better world because he’s not predigest and he has matured.
Phillip’s story demonstrates a true Hero’s journey. During his journey he overcomes predigest and blindness with help from Timothy. Phillip proves himself to be an epic hero.
