In the "Artical Poe's Death Is Rewritten as Case of Rabies, not Telltale Alcohol. I think by reading this artical that Poe did not die by being drunk, i think he died because he had encephalitic rabies. Dr.Benitez says that his case was that Poe had rabies.
Also they say that Poe had all the features of rabies .when poe was at the hospital poe was pespiring hevily,and shouting at imaginary companions. Dr.B says that poe seeemes better but he couldent rememberbing ill. On the fourth day poe once again grow confused angry and aggressive, then he like went quiet downed and died.
before Poe died,when Poe was clam, and awake, Poe refused alcohol but could drink water but he drank the water with great difficulty.they say that peoplewith rabies fear water becuseit is painful to swallow.so when Poe drankthe water it was painful for him.
Dr. henry says that poe had all the features of encephalitic rabies.Rabie symptoms can take up till a year to appear,but when the symptoms appear, the disease is a fast and brutal killer.
other reasons poe did not die of alcohol was that he almost always avided alcohol. so thats why i think edgerpoe died of encephalitic rabies and not by Alcohol.
