To me both theory's about Poe's death are good but there's one that stood out to me. That was the alcohol theory. The Rabies theory is a good argument too but there's some stuff that don't make it easy to beleive. For example if the doctors thought he had Rabies, how come they didn't get a diagnosis to confirm it? Or do something besides just look at his symptoms?
Poe was found outside a saloon. He was obviously drunk and had been outside in the rain. Being in the rain might have contributed ti his illness. Morman and his wife said he was unconcious untill three o'clock the next morning, which to me sounds like a really bad hangover. Who knows how much alcohol he had to start trembling when he woke up. Elmira Shelton remembers Poe leaving to Baltimre with a fever, so maybe being in the rain made it worse. Thats why he was seeing stuff and was being irrational.
Poe had other occasions when he was drunk and out of control. He also had letters promising to his wife that hw would recover. Im not saying he wasn't sick. Im sure he was before he left to Baltimore. But i think the big amount of alcohol caused his death. I dont think they should say he had Rabies untill they have some repert from a test.
