There are many theories about how Edgar Allan Poe died. I believe that he died of rabies because he had some of the symptoms you get when you have rabies. Poe had visable scratches, but no visable bite marks. They say that one fourth of rabies of victims reportedly cannot remember being bitten by a rabid animal. Dr. R. Michael Benitez, an assistant professor of medicine at Maryland University Medical Center said that by the second or third day that Poe had been reported he was perspiring heavily, hallucinating, and shouting at imaginary companions .
I don't believe Poe was drunk or died from alcohol abuse because they couldn't prove it that he had alcohol in his system. Also his wife or friend said that he would react violently ill if he was exposed to any alcohol. they also say that he may have had some problems with alcohol as a younger man, but he almost always avoided it.
Another reason why I believe that Poe had rabies is because vicims that are frequently exhibited have or are diagnosed with hydrophobia, or fear of water, because nit is very painful to swallow. There are theories before the incident that he was wearing someone else's clothing.
This is just my belief, but who know's ? I might be wrong. There are known to be a lot of theories of this story, but I believe this one.
