I think that Edgar Allan Poe died from rabies. I believe t hat theory, because there is more evidence and symptoms that shows that he has rabies then alcoholism. Poe was not in his right state of mind and was not dressed how he usually dressed his close looked like he had been robbed and they were dirty looking.
People say that he was out of his mind and that he was acting like his self. He didn't know what was going on around him it was like if he was unconscious. When people were surrounding him in Gunner's Hall he had a vacant stupidity look on his face. So he was taking to a hospital, because know one wanted to take care of him.
Poe was sent to a hospital called Washington Medical College. When Poe got to the hospital he was half-conscious and was pale and drenched in sweat. He also had a fever from the night before, because he had traveled in the rain and winds that night before.
Poe began to loose his memory about his loved ones and his life. He became violently delirious and started yelling out name that know one could understand. He was also scared to drink water and people that have rabies are scared to drink water, because it hurts them to drink it. Poe's last words were "Lord help my poor soul" and he quietly passed away.
